This circuit utilises a 4026 ic to drive a 7 segment led display.
The circuit below shows the 4026 and connections to the 7 segment display, this is the building block tomany useful counting devices.
We can add switches to this to make a simple counter, a count switch, a stop switch and a reset switch.
This now gives us a 0-9 counter that is manually triggered by a push button. However what do we do if we want to count above 9?
Well, the circuit below shows how to connect two 4026 together to get a 0-99 counter
It can be seen that this circuit can be expanded to give any size counter, just keep cascading each 4026 in the same way.
Automating the counter is simple, just add a 555 circuit and watch the counter cycle through 0-9, thecircuit is shown below,
