This project allows equipment to be switched off when a smoke detector activates. The circuit described here utilises a commercially available professional smoke detector designed for connection to an intruder alarm system. Although the original circuit was designed for use with a latching smoke detector, a simple alteration to the circuit will allow it to be used with non-latching types, the adapted circuit is shown below.
It should be noted that this project should not be used for crutial equipment shut down, it was originally designed to switch a soldering iron off if excess smoke was detected at a certain distance from it.

The diagram below shows the non-latching smoke detector adaptor circuit, this circuit will latch the relay on until the reset button is pressed.
An LED or lamp could replace the buzzer as a visual indicator of activation, it should be noted that once the relay is latched it WILL NOT be retriggered by the smoke detector, and the relay will only switch off when the reset button is pressed.
